ENABLE SUCCESS

Construction Ready aims to support Educators in the work they do every day to create the industry leaders of tomorrow.

Building on activities that occur in classrooms across the province, the Construction Ready collection of tools are an extension to the good work being done by you to prepare students for life after high school.

The assignments, projects and extracurricular activities that students participate in on a daily basis are providing them with the fundamental Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge required to be successful in the workforce.  The Construction Ready tools are geared to help students sort these activities into a central location that will empower them to connect with their educators, mentors and future employers in new and effective ways.

RESOURCES

CONSTRUCTION CAREER CATALYSTS

Our Construction Career Catalysts are a resource to you. As experienced tradespeople who have the training to impart construction work realities to students, their in-class presentations on the Industry ASK and FutureBuilder may be a good supplement to your curriculum.

In addition to in-class presentations and student support, the Catalysts have access to a rich network of employers who are interested in supporting young people via classroom presentation, work experience and site visits.

We invite you to contact the Construction Career Catalyst in your area to learn more or Request a Presentation.

THE INDUSTRY ASK

Through consultation with industry and educators across the province, three core expectations were identified for young people starting out in the construction industry.  These core expectations, Attitude, Skill & Knowledge are the base of The Industry ASK and the touchstone for the Construction Ready tools.

The Industry ASK is available in poster format and is referred to on the Rubric Tools.

THE RUBRIC

The Rubric is a tool used to identify employer expectations of young workers starting out in construction employment. It is developed with industry direction and can be used as a way to understand, and prepare for, the experience of starting most entry level construction jobs. It is designed to be integrated with the new Applied Design, Skills and Technologies and can be used as a classroom tool.

The Rubric can be used as a student self-assessment or as a tool for employers or teachers to provide assessment. It may be appropriate to use the Rubric at the beginning and end of a course or work experience in order to highlight where a student has demonstrated growth or requires additional focus.

The Rubric is available in a booklet or poster format.

FUTUREBUILDER

FutureBuilder is an online tool, based upon curriculum and programming taking place in most schools. It is currently being used by Educators as a tool to support Students as they prepare for and apply for work in the construction industry.

Students use FutureBuilder as a tool to plan and document their high school experience, while graduating students use it to prepare for apprenticeship. From Job Shadowing to joining a Sports Team or Club, the experiences that young people are accumulating are enabling them to become ready for life after school. Access the FutureBuilder Workbook to view the types of activities students are completing within the app.

Student privacy is of utmost importance. All information and data that students put into the app is private and controlled by them. Only they can choose who they share their progress with. Once invited, educators or parents see all the actions a student starts, while students can select what an employer sees. For more information, visit our Privacy Policy.

Youth / Employer Events

We also hold events in the schools that bring employers and students together.  Our last Showcase Event brought employers into the Explore A Trade class at Salmon Arm Secondary to view the students' year end projects and potentially make a summer hire!  Read more about this event on our blog.
